Argyle Commercial Expert Responder Training Workshop

Level 3 – 8 Hour

AIM

To fully enable company spill response teams who may be required to control spills in a wide range of environments.

OBJECTIVES

At conclusion of this 8 hour (and any additional field exercises) the participants will:

  1. Be alerted to the effects of spills into client-specified environments
  2. Have the necessary information to be able to safely and effectively respond to spill incidents within those environments
  3. Be fully briefed on the benefits of good housekeeping practices in regards to stored liquids

OUTCOMES

Participants will gain knowledge in responding to spills of oils and chemicals and will be actively involved in the setting up and maintenance of spill response equipment and the proper storage, use and disposal of liquids at specified sites. They shall be made more aware of the W.H.S and environmental aspects of spills and be conversant with their responsibilities under the S.O.P's (Standard Operating Procedures) as laid down by their company.

TRAINING STRUCTURE

The eight hour training secession shall be presented by field experienced, Cert IV trained and accredited instructors and will be divided into modules with a short (5 minute) break between each module presentation. These modules will cover the following subjects:

MODULE 1

  • SAFETY - WHS and Company SOP's
  • ADMINISTRATION and ENROLMENT
  • SAFE APPROACH TO SPILLS
  • DAMS - types, uses, construction
  • Group Discussion on preceding module
  • QUIZ

MODULE 2

  • FLOATING BOOMS - types, uses, construction
  • Group Discussion on preceding module
  • SKIMMERS - types and uses
  • Group Discussion
  • QUIZ

MODULE 3

  • SORBENTS - types, uses, procedures
  • Group Discussion on all preceding modules
  • QUIZ

MODULE 4

  • SPILL SITE PROCEDURES - safety, initial procedures
  • Environmental Issues, oils on soils
  • Curriculum summary and questions
  • Group Discussion on preceding modules
  • QUIZ

MODULE 5

  • EQUIPMENT, TEAMS and DISPOSAL OPTIONS
  • Kits, team duties, land-fill, land-farming, recycling
  • Group Discussion on preceding module
  • QUIZ

MODULE 6

  • EXERCISE PLANNING / FIELD EXERCISE(S)
  • Debriefing on exercise and course administration
  • Comments on day's proceedings and close
  • Issue of certificates and manuals

A Level 3 Certificate of either "Argyle Commercial Spill Training" or TAFE RTO Certificate of Attainment (Unit Accreditation MSAPMSUP172A-I "Identify and Minimise Environmental Hazards"), shall be gained by full attendance and active participation in the nominated exercises and competent answering of the course questions.
