SpillBoss Poly Bunding - Everything You Need To Know
Okay... I was tasked with the job of writing a post about our SpillBoss poly bunds - the main problem being I know nothing about bunds Yep! Nothing... so I look up our previous blog posts on bunds, beginning by clicking through the many posts on our website - there are a lot!
Feel free to look at them yourself.
Anyway, I find at least five which fit the brief, so now I'm stuck... what more can be written about bunds which isn't already on here? Oh yes! I'll consolidate them - and voila! The information will be correct, concise and you will only have to read one post instead of all five!
A bund is a secondary containment device that gets placed under containers of dangerous or biohazardous liquid to prevent leaks and spills from escaping. Bunds essentially provide a second level of protection, containing spills as they occur. Some facilities use permanent concrete bunding, however most people prefer a smaller and more portable option - which you can find right here!
Argyle's SpillBoss poly bunds are bright yellow for increased visibility and are resistant to corrosion.
Any liquid that shouldn't be poured down a drain should be stored safely and in compliance with Federal, State and Local Government regulations - so, very likely on a bund! If it isn't stored safely, your worksite is probably non-compliant.
How big a bund should you have for your containers? Your local regulations may differ, but typically in Australia the requirements are that the bund capacity should be at least 110% of the largest container or 25% of the total stored on the bund - whichever is greater.
That's (relatively) simple... haha not! This table will help you to figure it out.
|Container Type||Total Stored||25% Rule||110% Rule||Suitable Bund|
|One IBC||1000L||250L||1100L||SpillBoss Single/Dual IBC Bund|
|Two IBCs||2000L||500L||1100L||SpillBoss Dual IBC Bund|
|One 205L Drum||205L||52L||226L||SpillBoss One/Two/Four Drum Bund|
|Two 205L Drums||410L||103L||226L||SpillBoss Two/Four Drum Bund|
|Four 205L Drums||820L||205L||226L||SpillBoss Four Drum Bund|
As you can see, the 110% rule applies in every situation here. However, let's say you had a few different sized containers on the bund - well then you would have to use your head (and maybe a calculator!) to figure out the capacity your bund must have. If you can't figure it out or want to be sure, flick us an email or give us a call - we'd love to help you out.
Outside Bund Storage
Okay, so you've figured out what size bund you need... but then you realise you will have to store it outside. That's fine, all our SpillBoss poly bunding is weather resistant. But, if it rains and the sump fills with water, then your bund will quickly become non-compliant! Never fear - we Bave an excellent solution to this very problem. It's called a bund cover, and we have both PVC covers with a frame, and hardtop poly covers available.
But wait, that's not all - if you require a custom bund for a specific purpose, let us know and we may be able to come up with a solution for you - we've done it before!
I trust you enjoyed this informative blog post... now you know as much about bunds as I do!Seriously though, please check your warehouse and yard for non-compliant liquid storage, and don't hesitate to contact us if you need bunding, or assistance in choosing the right bund for your needs.
